The Effects of Teen Pregnancy

 +50% of adolescents who have a baby become pregnant again within two years of the baby’s birth. 

+Only 41% of teenage mothers complete high school, making it less likely for teen mothers to have the skills necessary to qualify for a well-paying job.

                                    

+Nearly 80% of fathers of children born to teen mothers do not marry the mothers.

 

+Teen fathers pay less than $800 in child support.

 

+Children of teen parents are 50% more likely to repeat a grade, perform poorly on standardized tests, and ultimately less likely to complete high school.

 

+Number of Teen Pregnancies, girls 15-19: 56,420 (New York)  821,810 (United States)

 

+Number of Teen Births, girls 15-19: 18,394 (New York)  425,493 (United States)

 

+A sexually active teen who doesn't use contraception has a 90% chance of pregnancy within one year.

 

+The costs of raising a baby to age 18 costs between $125,000-$250,000 and that’s not including college tuition! In your baby’s first year alone, you can easily spend between $9,000-$11,000 (for diapers, formula, baby furniture, clothing, baby gear, etc.)

 

+Four in ten girls get pregnant at least once before age 20.

 

+The United States has much higher pregnancy and birth rates than other fully industrialized countries.
