Your Questions about Birth Control Questions about Birth Control:
Q: If you get on birth control, do you have to wait a certain time after getting on the pill to have sex? I hear that you have to wait 1 month? A: If you start using a hormonal birth control, say for instance the pill, you do not need to wait to have sex, you do however need to use a back up method (i.e.: condoms) for the first month. Each of the hormonal methods has a different 'waiting period' until they become effective, when you start one of these methods your doctor or clinician will let you know how long you need to use a back up method (most likely it will be a month or so). Q: Do I have to see a gynecologist to get birth control , or can I get them with out a prescription? A: You must see a doctor or clinician and have a PAP test (sample of cells from the cervix for a cancer screening , routine yearly exam for the sexually active and anyone over 18) Family planning offers many forms of hormonal birth control like the pill, patch , shot and ring on a sliding fee scale. You can get free condoms too with out a prescription or you can buy them at a drug store. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
