Your Questions about Doing it Alone

(Masturbation)

Questions about Doing it Alone:

Q: Hi, I am 15 years old and I started to masturbate when I was 13.  I want to know if masturbating is bad for you after you do it for a long time.

A: Masturbation is a normal and healthy part of discovering your sexuality.  Despite the number of myths attached to masturbation, like you’ll go blind, or your palms will become hairy, masturbation in harmless.  In fact many people find it healthy, it allows you to get to know your body and what pleases you and what may not…it may help you to communicate with a future partner on your likes and dislikes.  The only problem that we can see with masturbation is if it takes over your life and interferes with your daily activities, for instance if you skip school or lunch or dinner or soccer practice to masturbate.  Though it’s not often talked about a lot of people do it, it’s a normal thing, carry on.
